Cabin by a Mountain (painting)

landscape

Like every kid that started painting in the 80s, I had to try my hand at the Bob Ross / William Alexander technique of painting landscapes.  I had amassed quite a collection of blank canvasses and oil paints through constant lobbying for art supplies in the weeks and months leading up to my birthday and Christmas so I was more than prepared to ruin a few.  Fortunately, I pretty much got it right on the first try (this was also the last time I used this technique)

I’m not a fan of using this particular technique because it feels formulaic and mechanical to me.  I have no problem with watching old Bob Ross reruns, though… I’m always amazed at how easily and quickly he could crank out a serene landscape.
